Hourglass

The candle flames amidst a sea of black
are like the stars against the dying sky
that swiftly change course and do not turn back,
swept they be for Time's melody is nigh.

And here I now walk with this dark parade,
grieving with tears for one I've never met,
cursing the Hour that continues to fade
that spares naught a second even to Death.

For Mnemosyne's gift of memory
cannot bring thee back from the Elysian Plains,
nor bribe Charon enough to ferry me
across with just a word of love or thanks.

Time is the enemy, full of despair,
always taking away, never once fair.
Sonnet for English class.

Time is so relentless at times. *sighs*

This piece is quite beautiful, and I hope to read more of your "poetic attempts" very soon. :)
